Makhosazana Khanyile DIRECTOR OF AD SALES, MARKETING, ON-AIR AND COMMUNICATIONS In her current role as Director of Ad Sales, Marketing, On- Air and Communications at Fox Networks Group Africa, Makhosazana Khanyile expertly leads the strategy for eight Fox Networks Group Channels. Over the past two years, she has been successful in expanding the brand’s social media presence while simultaneously strengthening the brand health. Becoming part of the Fox team, a globally recognised brand, has given Makhosazana the opportunity to utilise her skills and passions on an international platform. She was pivotal in bringing to life a brand-new Pan African channel called Fox Life. In her own words, this self-confessed logophile says, “I love words, I love reading – I love well-written scripts – I fell in love with Television all over again when I watched the pilot episode of The Newsroom because the dialogue was so sharp and again fell in-love with telling stories whilst watching The Walking Dead as she realised it was more than just about zombies but about the triumph of the human spirit. It is this passion for stories that she is determined to share with the rest of Africa. Over a period of 13 years at M-Net she crafted her skills to become a media expert in all aspects of the industry. She has a keen eye for monitoring trends which, combined with a thorough understanding of demographics and psychographics, serves her well to make skilful decisions and form long-term strategies. She is also highly knowledge- able of Broadcasting Regulations in East and West Africa, a strength that has allowed her to advise business operations on the continent. Affectionately known as Khosi, Makhosazana Khanyile has trail blazed the path for women working in the field of media and communications for more than a decade. At the age of 39, she has become a respected and distinguished presence in the Media and Broadcasting world in Africa. Her love for television started at a young age and, by looking at her career over the years, it becomes clear that this passion has not waned in the slightest. With a Bachelors Degree in Communication Science from Unisa under her belt and International Diploma in Journalism at Allenby Campus, she started her career as a trainee reporter for Drum magazine in 1997. She subsequently took up positions at True Love magazine as a Features Coordinator during Khanyi Dhlomo’s tenure as Editor, and credits Khanyi as an inspiration. Her media journey saw a year-long stop over at YFM as an online editor before moving into the television arena. Joining M-Net in 2001 and gaining valuable experience at Channel O as a scheduler and Web Editor, she moved to the kids brands where she worked as a Brand Manager for Ktv and GO. During her time as Channel and Marketing Manager for the Genre Channels at M-Net which included M-Net Action/ Stars and M-Net Series, the M-Net Action channel won a prestigious international Hot Bird Award in the fiction category, a first for South Africa television. “I have a fierce team of immensely talented individuals that report to me. Our Head of Ad Sales Baleseng Dlamini has more than 14 years in the industry and Samira Gerin- Singh and her team have won numerous awards for FNG. I’m enthused to go to work everyday because I know I’m part of something bigger than just one individual and it’s amazing to be a part of FNG Africa’s growth on the continent”. In 2016 she successfully managed the Empire South African tour working alongside DStv as a media partner and to date says that was the biggest event in FNG Africa’s history. The plan is to bring the fans, where possible, closer to the talent and grow the love for the brands she manages.
